Welcome to Saltash Sixth Form

Welcome from the Headteacher

I am genuinely delighted that you are considering joining the Sixth Form at Saltash Community School.

During Year 11, you will make some important decisions about your future, and whilst there are many options open to you, I believe that Saltash Sixth Form is one of the best.

Part of our success is that students get a truly bespoke experience here. We offer a wide range of courses, and students are taught in small classes. We also ensure that all students have additional opportunities on their timetable, such as Duke of Edinburgh, the EPQ, volunteer work or the option to study a 4th subject at AS Level. This makes for a rich and rounded experience.

The Sixth Form at Saltash offers an adult environment where you will be continually encouraged and supported to realise your potential. We will have high expectations of you. You will all have responsibilities, and you will hold a privileged position as role models within the school. This will ensure that you leave us not only with a fantastic set of results, but you will have developed the confidence and character to realise your goals and aspirations, whatever they may be.

We are justifiably extremely proud of our sixth form students, and if you choose to join us, we are sure you will see why. If you think this may be the place for you, then we would be delighted to receive your application.

We look forward to seeing you here!

Welcome from the Head of Sixth Form

I am delighted to welcome you to Saltash Sixth Form. Our Sixth Form is a vibrant and thriving community at the heart of our school and our local area, where students are leaders and are aspirational, both in learning and in life.

Sixth Form study is about a love of learning and a thirst for knowledge, but is also about growing independence. Here at Saltash, it is supported by excellent facilities and a range of outstanding support structures. Students choose their personalised pathway from an exciting range of Level 3 courses, both traditional A Levels, and other Level 3 qualifications, and benefit from a strong super-curricular offer.

Sixth Form study at Saltash is built around fostering aspirations and supporting students to move on to the best and most exciting post-18 destinations. Our career guidance is comprehensive, with life skills, 1:1 post 18 choices support, and expert Oxbridge, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine pathway support. Pastoral care is built in to our
Sixth Form provision, with a dedicated Sixth Form tutor team and excellent links to local youth organisations. We offer teaching through small class sizes, ensuring all students receive tailored, high-quality teaching, high levels of feedback and a truly bespoke learning experience.

At Saltash Sixth Form, students live out our school ethos of ‘broad horizons and confident leaders’ with learning that goes beyond the classroom and leadership roles amongst our student body. We are proud to work in partnership with local universities and to run trips across the curriculum. Alongside their studies at Saltash, Sixth Formers are both role models and leaders amongst our students, becoming Subject Leaders, Mental Health Ambassadors, Peer Readers, or taking up roles on our Head Student Team.

When students leave Saltash Community School and go on to their fabulous post-18 destinations, they do so with confidence in themselves as young adults, as well as in themselves as learners.

We are excited to welcome you here for this next exciting stage of your journey!

Joining Saltash Sixth Form is the beginning of a bright future. Here at Saltash I feel part of a community, a feeling that comes from the teachers as much as your friends. Saltash staff are not only knowledgeable but also kind and approachable. You can always rely on them for support, whether it’s with your studies or your wellbeing, and that makes such a difference to your confidence! I’ve felt very safe and supported in my time here. Saltash
Sixth Form is a place where you can focus, grow, and truly be yourself. The atmosphere here creates something really special, driving you to success, with everyone wanting the best for each other. I’m proud and honoured to be a part of the school community, and I know I’ll look back on these days as some of the best of my life!

Atiyana - Head Student
Saltash Sixth Form is a welcoming community that strives for ambition, dedication, and greatness. The jump from GCSEs to A levels can be a dramatic change but the range of support available within Sixth Form is extensive: from the strong links with tutors, other students and the pastoral team, there is always someone there to make you feel heard and understood. We are also encouraged to take part in many opportunities, whether it be Sports Leaders, Duke of Edinburgh, or an EPQ, there are opportunities for all students across all levels of confidence. These activities have helped me to develop valuable skills and knowledge that I can carry with me for the future. I am grateful to be part of Saltash Community Sixth Form, where every day brings new opportunities to grow, achieve, and be part of a supportive and inspiring community.

Life in Saltash Sixth Form

Saltash Sixth Form Centre

Our purpose-built Sixth Form Centre offers an exceptional post 16 learning experience. Sixth Form study is based around matching every hour spent learning in subject specialist classrooms, with equal hours spent consolidating and widening learning independently. At Saltash our large dedicated Study Room offers a calm and focused environment for independent study, well-supported by generous IT provision. Study skills form part of Sixth Form teaching and students are supported in building their autonomy.

Sixth Form students have access to our excellent school gym, and enjoy weekly Active For
Life sessions. These offer an exciting range of alternative and engaging activities suited to all sporting tastes and talents. As with all aspects of the bespoke curriculum students can construct for themselves in Saltash Sixth Form, activities range from the traditional and the competitive to the intriguing and light-impact, allowing those of all sporting abilities to develop healthy bodies in a fun and supportive environment alongside their challenged minds and studies.

Our Sixth Form Centre also has a dedicated canteen food outlet, the Social Kitchen. Students enjoy the freedom of purchasing a wide range snacks and delicious hot food as young adults in their place of learning, independent of the main school facilities. There is also pleasant social space for sixth form students to enjoy their breaks, both indoors and outside, with a café-culture feel.

Life as a Saltash Sixth Form Student

Sixth Form students enjoy a non uniform dress code. Dress should be ‘professional smart,’ underpinning students’ strong work ethos, high standards, motivation and their status as role models in our school. Blazers are worn and neither jeans nor trainers are allowed; ties are optional

Student leadership is significant part of Sixth Form life. Not only do Sixth Form students act as role models to younger students, they also develop skills of autonomy and confidence within a supportive scaffolded program.

All Sixth Form students take part in our highly successful Peer Reading program and also join younger
students to enjoy and lead Friday Board Games sessions.

We are proud of our Student Leadership program, with Sixth Form students supporting learning within a curriculum area of their choice, Sixth Form students can train to become Mental Health Ambassadors, and Sixth Form members of our school council take a leading role in whole school student voice. Our Head Student team take an active role in whole school life, organising and leading charity events.

Taking learning outside the classroom is an important part of student’s Sixth Form experience. Trips are run through subject departments and the Sixth Form team, ensuring students have the widest range of opportunities and experiences they can, to enrich their learning and truly broaden horizons.
